I read and you are clearly the writer Oogy. I had never even heard of writing prompts ! I do like to learn about things though. I think when JJ has the time it will be fun and good for her, she does write well.
So JJ, ever busy as always, -- I do like to let you know when something really interesting happens at Lilbro, I think you and Oogy have similar interest. I make up stories in my head but do not have writing skills.

Come to think of it, my English teacher sometimes had us do writing prompts last year in our daily journals. I forgot about that.... too bad I threw the journal away. At least I think I did. I'll have to go check my desk upstairs..... that would be cool if I still had them :D
I am in a play called Seussical the Musical. It's a musical based off of Dr. Seuss books. It's actually a very cute story.

I am the leader of the Wickersham brothers( we're kind of changing it and now it's become the Wickersham brother's and sister haha). We danced and learned our choreography for 4 hours yesterday and 2 1/2 today. So, now my thighs are extremel sore. And it's really really painful to walk upstairs.

Your play sounds great --- I wish I could see it !
Do check -- perhaps you still have the journal -- and you should try one of Oogys's prompts -- it would be really interesting to me to see what you writers would come up with starting at the same time with the same prompt.

That play sounds like it would be fun to do(fun to watch too). I'd heard of it before, but hadn't ever read the synopsis.
I took a year of Speech & Drama when I was in High School. It was pretty fun. I was just the light guy when we did a 1-act play(we had some pretty amazing lightning effects and stuff though if you ask me though :P ). I did do the individual competitions though.
I had a Humorous Duet, and we got cheated out of going to state because one of the judges at regionals didn't like our school(there were 3 judges and we got ranked 1st, 1st, 9th). In other competitions before that(and by 2 of the judges there) we got ranked higher than the guys that ended up winning state.
I also had a Dramatic Duet. That was fun because we were both more humor people and not much for acting out the dramatic pieces. Neither of us ever memorized the piece. We just improvised... and the it ended up being different each time. We even realized the day we went to our first competition that we didn't have an introduction to our piece and made it up on the spot. The funny thing about that is that we normally got pretty good responses from the judges and were only one place away from ending up in state with a piece neither of us really cared about.
We were supposed to have three pieces... I don't remember what the name for the other competition I was in. Basically what it was though, is that you write your own speech(normally they're serious) about a problem and how you think that problem should be solved. My piece was a humorous one about all of the times we don't follow the most basic rules of the english language, and the rules that don't make sense. I basically exaggerated it and created my own language. I called it Enunciate English, except you have to pronounce each letter, none silent, no blends, no 'c' that sounds like an 's', etc. I don't really remember much about the speech itself except that the openning line was in the new language and it got me a LOT of weird looks. This piece is where I learned I don't do well unless I've got someone up there to interact with me. I had a hard time rememberring a solid 5 minute block of speech. Ironically even though it was my worst performance, I ended up taking this one to state just because it was an event that very few people participated in and I got 3rd out of 4 people at regionals.
Wow... that ended up being really long... Oh well, I've already typed it out.
Anyway, I wish I could see your play, it sounds like fun.
I think it would be cool if, sometime when we've both got time, we could choose a writing prompt and both write on it then see what comes out. One reason I like these vague little prompts is because it leaves a lot to the writer; there's a billion different ways you could go with it.

I enjoyed your post --- not long in my opinion ! It was just right.
I just edited out my idea -- it would be more of a discussion prompt rather than a writing prompt !
Your competition sounds fascinating Oogy -- 5 minutes is a long time to talk -- and I would imagine it was really interesting.
I too would love to see JJ's play and I have been wanting to hear her sing for a very lonnnnnnnnnng time.
Someday -- somehow -- I intend too ! She has promised to sing some of my favorites hymns for me -- and I believe it will happen.

I'm actually not in any Drama classes, however I am in the Drama Club at school.
It sounds like you had a lot of fun in High School. I'm hoping to the Speech Meet this year, but I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do. I was thinking about doing a Children's reading. My friend di that last year, and she said it was a lot of fun :)
And I promise to sing those hymns for you someday Les. You'll have to tell me some of your favs so I can learn them now. :D

We didn't really have any clubs at school(small school lol). The drama class was even a pretty new thing at the time.
Now I'm curious what the idea you edited out was LES...

OK -- but I warned you it was silly, and that I do not really understand the ins and outs of writing or writing prompts.
Plates -- just dinner plates. I was sort of thinking about how the simplest thing can serve the same purpose as something of far greater value. Say China versus a $1.00 plate from Walmart and why the very expensive plate would be so treasured by some.

That sounds like it could be an interesting idea. I would try it out now, but my brain seems to be on vacation at the moment.

No matter who or where you are, it's time to reach for something higher.
Let's play for more than par. Let's set this world afire.
