Huh, it's been years since I read it, but 12 sounds about right to me as well.

I looked it up after I wrote that line, and this is what I found:

"Money comes up again when all the horses and ponies are stolen from Barliman Butterbur's stable in Bree. He pays Merry 18 silver pennies to compensate him for the loss of the Hobbit's ponies and purchases a pony from Bill Ferny for another 12 silver pennies, 3 times what the pony was worth."

Hah! I need to re-read these books someday..... I only remember odd bits and pieces of these trivia questions.

As we learned in Narnia....

The questions are too hard for me -- I would have to look up the answers -- and that sort of defeats the purpose. It has been years since I read the book -- it would be good to read it again.

I am about to start back through the Shalrodan books again however -- I will think of you when I get to those pesky cannons !
