Haha, thought it would be fun to revive this old thing.

Sorry I haven't been on much. My internet has been giving me quite a bit of trouble, and I haven't really been online at all lately. Between that and not having cable for my TV, it seems like there's more time in the day lol.

I've been spending most of my time teaching myself to play guitar. I'd tried to do this a couple times before, but couldn't ever find a good source to learn from. I finally found a DVD from a guy who wrote a bunch of well known praise songs(Paul Baloche). I got it on Friday and it is really helping a lot. He teaches it fairly well, plus having it on DVD means you can pause/rewind/etc, PLUS, since he's teaching it from a Christian perspective, the songs I'm learning are songs I would've wanted to learn anyway, so that's really cool, and a good motivator.

On top of that, I've been using my dad's guitar that he won in a charity raffle... which it was nice to have that available, but it isn't set up very well and is kind of hard to play. I could get that adjusted at a local shop probably, but I actually found a REALLY good deal on a guitar. One of my friends recommended a website for me to look at guitars on, and I found a good one on there for a good price that also has a mail in rebate, and then got them to price match a cheaper site, so I ended up being able to get the guitar, a case, and a strap all for less than the retail price of the guitar :D Supposedly it will be here on Wednesday... can't wait.

Also, I kind of accidentally started writing songs lol. Every once in a while I get an idea... normally just a thought or sentence... like one line of a song. Then I go to write it down and get another idea, and it ends up being a song lol.

Anyway, I think that's pretty much everything that's been going on lately other than the usual work and such.

Personally I am thrilled to see it back. I did enjoy this topic and hearing of all the interesting things you do.

I do remember you talking about learning to play the guitar and it is quite nice to know that you have found the right teaching aid for the task. I do wish I had some sort of musical ability but sadly I do not and I have tried.

You have always been quite creative in the ways you find to get a good deal. It sounds like you did very well on the guitar. I remember back when you got your Wii and what a good deal you got with it and clearly it has held up and was of good quality. I think the guitar sounds like another shopping success. I do hope you are totally happy with it when it arrives.I admit I was a little skeptical about the Wii but now I am a believer that the deals are out there !

What is the problem with your internet. I don't think you are missing much with out cable. Ours is satellite but we are finding fewer quality programs all the time. The new shows they are advertising are sad and for the most part decadent and not anything we would ever watch. A show called Ice Road Truckers is coming back that we rather enjoyed. It is sort of a documentary about the Alaskan ice road over a lake that they make each year and that is the only time of the year that they can haul equipment and stuff in to the area. The rest of the year it is minimal air access at best. The ice cracks and the water shifts and occasional a truck goes through. I guess it is just a glimpse into another way of life we find interesting. They do have some unbelievable challenges trucking very huge and heavy equipment over the ice. ( now how did I get started talking about that !! ?? )

I must go, it is 5: 30 a.m. and chores need to be done early, it is surely too hot for this time of year.

I think it is a combination of a problem with the wireless card on my computer, and the wireless router that provides internet service for my apartment complex. Both work off and on, so I have to find a time when they are both working at the same time lol.

I REALLY like my new guitar. It's awesome. It's easier to play than the other one, sounds better... and it even looks really nice. It has a plug on it so you can hook it up to an AMP, I"m kinda curious how it will sound plugged in... might have to take it by the church one day to play with it.

I've been spending almost all of my spare time practicing and am seeing a lot of progress so far. I really enjoy it too, so that helps. I'm working on putting music to one of the songs I wrote... kinda curious how that will turn out.

I've seen that ice trucker show before. It's on the History channel right? WHen I did have cable, my TV was almost always on either the History or Discovery channel, I enjoyed both of those.

Anyway, it's getting pretty late, I'd better get off. Just wanted to post while my internet was working for afew minutes.

Hopefully both will work at the same time more often because I do miss you when you are not here.

We love the History Channel and yes that is who has Ice Road Truckers. I do not know why we find it so fascinating, I suppose it is just the idea of the thing and the glimpse of a lifestyle so different from our own. We do enjoy learning about such things. We also use the Discovery Channels quite a lot, you really can find some very interesting documentaries there. I of course also enjoy some of the Programming on Animal Planet. We of course, as I have mentioned many times follow the PBR as well. Regular programming is on a steady downhill spiral. It is depressing really. One of the new shows being advertised is called Swingtown. It is all about couples in shall we say "open" marriages. ( network programming ) Now that is going to be a prime time show. It is really quite disgusting. Thank goodness for the History Channel and a few others. Occasionally Hallmark has a good clean family sort of movie.

I am so happy for you that the guitar is all that you expected and I think learning to play it is a wonderful use of your time. I do wish I had a drop or two of musical ability. If you ever feel like sharing the words to one of your songs that would be great and if ever at church or something you made a recording I hope you would share.

I am so proud of you John, you are always moving forward and finding knew ways to use your talent for the Lord.

I hope you can post again soon ( when everything is aligned ) it is always such a nice surprise when you are here.

Seems to be working today... which is interesting I don't have a good reason for why it is working right now lol(which is kinda funny since I am internet tech support at work lol)... Oh well, guess I won't question it.

I will eventually post a song or two on here... and I do think I will eventually want to record it at church or something.

I really am enjoying playing my guitar even if I can't do much with it right now, it is fun to see the progress.

I will be eagerly waiting for that.

Yes it would be great fun as it all starts for fit to gather. Oh I do wish I had any musical ability. I can imagine how much you must be enjoying it. I always think it is a great blessing for those that play and those that just listen when some on can share praise through music.

Here are the lyrics to the song that I'm working on writing/learning music for:

Lord Over All

<verse 1>
You are who You are
Whether I am or not
You are Lord over all
Even without my praise
You don't need me to sing
You don't need me at all
But You gave me this life
To spend it with You
So I lift up Your name
Jesus, Lord over all

[chorus]
You've given me the honor
To sing out Your praises
So I will not be silent
Won't let rocks take my place

<verse 2>
I am who I am
Because of You Lord
My sins forgotten
Through your sacrifice
And I can't comprehend
Why You love me so
But You gave me this life
To live it with You
So I lift up your name
Jesus, Lord over all

[2x chorus]

I will sing out your praise....

Very nice Oogy, I especially like the second verse. I would love to hear it to music. Seems to me that you are off to a great start.

Thank you for sharing

Well, I'm singing it at church on the 22nd... and if I can remember to start the recording before service, I'll have that recorded... otherwise I'll probably record it later at church or something.

I'm glad you like it :)

Please Please Please do Oogy, I always call In Christ Alone Oogy's song. Now there really is an Oogy's song. I will have to call it Oogy's song 2 though : ) You are so gifted. I am sure that it will bless many people. That is a very special thing to be able to do. I wish we could be there.
