I am very pleased to hear from you Himura, I am glad that you are concentrating on your studies. That of course is very important. If you do have a few minutes to spare even just a short post like this is very nice to find. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by.
Are you enjoying school this year ? Is this your first year of college ?
If you can Himura please stop in to say hello now and then, and even though I understand that you are busy, I do miss you having you hear at Lilbro.
Do you ever see Panther or Silas ? Tell them I said Hi if you do.
It is really nice to hear from you. : )

Sorry this took so long, but I'm here now :)
The weekend I spent in Fort Worth was great. I learned a lot and had a good time. The people that let me stay in their house were really nice(though I didn't get to spend much time with them since they weren't there that most of the weekend). They let me eat their food and stay in their spare room even though they'd never met me before(they are friends with my sister though). I got a lot of free samples from different companies and got to see some of the different types of equipment in action to see what might be best for me now and what I might want to look into farther down the road and stuff. One of the companies actually gave me a free screen(normally they cost around $20-30).
Since then, I have gotten my first order of shirts in and have mailed out the first orders. Hopefully I'll have at least one more design available by Christmas.
I'm also still looking into getting the equipment I need to start up my own screen printing shop. I'm actually pretty sure I can build most of it for cheaper than I would pay for the equipment I was looking at and actually have better functionality.
I'm also considering moving before I start my shop. Whenever I get my shop set up, I'm planning to go all out and full time with it, so there's nothing really tying me to this area. One of the places I'm considering is down in Texas near where my sister lives. I would be near 2 Christian colleges and a couple public colleges. Christian college students is probably going to be my biggest customers, and also that would mean lots of clubs/organizations, events, and concerts many of will need t-shirts printed for them and some of the events and concerts would probably be good for selling my own shirts.
Nothing certain yet, just something I'm considering and praying about.

That was worth waiting for ! I do understand that this is a very busy time for you Oogy, no worries about the wait.
It does sound as though your trip was a huge success and it was ever so kind of your sisters friends to let you stay with them. I think perhaps you come from a very well liked family.
You make a good point, you are young and just beginning to pursue your dreams, it is very good that you consider the best location for your shop. We have a couple of screen print shops here and both seem to be doing well. An area with the colleges close would be great and of course it provides you with the opportunity of classes as well.
I suppose the only draw back might be cost of living and cost of start up. Do you think it would be more in that area ?
I think, from what I know of silk screen building your own equipment truly would be more cost effective and
better results. Some things you will have to buy but that is to be expected.
I will be praying for you Oogy that the Lord will guide your steps as you make your dreams come true. the really good part is it honors our Saviour and helps to spread his word. I will pray that this venture is quite a success for many reasons.
I am proud of you for what you have accomplished Oogy, You have come quite a long way from when you first came to Lilbro.

I'm still looking into this, it seems like a pretty good option, still need time to consider my options and pray about it more though. The cost of living seems to be pretty similar to what it is here actually.
As far as building my equipment goes, I'm pretty convinced that the only major piece of equipment I'll need to straight up buy is the press itself. Then of course the smaller things like the screens and squeegees(hehe, that's a weird word). For the most part though, I should be able to build things like a unit to burn the images in the screens, a dryer(I'll actually need 2 different kinds of dryer, but should be able to build both), storage and drying racks for the screens, etc.
That should get my cost down quite a bit over buying all of the equipment from a major manufacturer, plus I'll be able to build them to get exactly what I want(in some cases for better functionality than what I would've bought from the manufacturers). Sometimes soon, I need to get estimates of all the materials needed to build the different stuff and from there figure out how much money I'll need.
I appreciate your prayers very much :)

Yes I think you are wise, it makes a lot more sense to really think this through. I am sure that building your own equipment is a good idea, what you can of it anyway. However moving needs careful consideration. would it bother you to be that much further from home, that kind of thing can be pretty important. What about where you want to go to school ? It would seem that once you actually open the shop you would want to be very sure that is where you want to live.
Prayer is indeed a very good idea at this point.

I've lived that far away from home before and it didn't really bother me(until my health problems got worse, but that wasn't related to the distance). I don't think it would bother me much. It would probably bother my mom lol, but it's not so far away she couldn't come visit now and then if she wants(or me if I have the time). I'd actually be pretty close to my oldest sister, and might would even end up going to the same church with her. That would be pretty cool, and would actually give my parents another excuse to come visit, they could come and see both of us.
As far as living there permanently, I do think that would have to pretty much always be my "base" or "headquarters"(that one sounds cool lol) or whatever, but I have a pretty strong feeling that I'll actually end up taking the show on the road so to speak, and probably fairly often. One of the main people I want to print shirts for is Christian music groups, and besides just printing shirts for them, their concerts would make a great place to sell my own shirts, so I could easily see me following them around on tours in something of a mobile screen printing shop(if you've already got the designs made and put on screens, it wouldn't be that hard to throw the rest of the operation into a good sized trailer if you give some thought to the size of the equipment before you buy/build it).
In other news, I am planning to apply for a second job tomorrow. That will help me get the money together faster. The job I'm applying for actually pays more than my current one. The only reason I didn't take that job in the first place instead of Walmart is that it would have me talking on the phone all day taking calls from people. I hate talking on the phone... but that's something I'm going to have to at least kind of get over anyway. I don't expect to really enjoy the job, but it pays nicely and I figure I can suck it up for a few months if it'll get me that much closer to buying my equipment. With my current pay, I'm able to put a little bit back off each check, it's not much though. It is gradually adding up, but not nearly as fast as I'd like. I figure though since I can easily live of my WalMart paycheck, then I should be able to pretty much put the entire paycheck from the second job in the bank. That should build up pretty quickly. I'll have to buy new clothes and an iron and ironing board for the job though... I pretty much only own jeans and t-shirts and they told me to be sure and dress "business casual"... had to use Google to even figure out what that meant!
It reminded me of the person that spoke when my dad graduated college this past summer. They said something to the effect of, "You should dress for the job you want to have." They basically meant if you dress in a suit and tie, your boss will notice and think more highly of you. They pretty much assumed that everyone wants to be some high dollar CEO... it makes me think though, does that mean I should be able to go to work in jeans and a t-shirt? Because once I get the job I want that's what I'll wearing lol.

Buying an iron and ironing board is a pretty serious commitment Oogy ! :) :)
I guess I was thinking like a Mom when I ask about the distance, I would hate for Lisa to move away. She moved to Missouri once and I hated it. I am glad she just recently bought a house in Ft Smith.
So you will be traveling, that does make sense but I had not even considered that, you really do have quite a plan. It will be nice if you decide to move to have your sister close and of course you are right, your Mom and Dad will visit.
I think it is very admirable that you are willing to work two jobs to get what you want but my that will be challenging. I am quite opposed to talking on the phone myself, so I think your second job might be a hard one
for me.
I do not like to wear anything but jeans and casual tops myself, actually this time of the year sweats and a hot cup of tea and a good book sounds about right. When we get home from church I can hardly get the church cloths off quick enough and I wear pants to church but of course they are nicer.
I like the trend toward more causal dress in the work place and yes for you that would mean it is jeans and a shirt. I suppose he meant for the job you are applying for however, probably not the best idea to apply indicating that the job you are applying for is just a stepping stone to the "real " job !
By now I suppose you are working 2 jobs -- don't forget to take good care of your health OOgy, we would not want you to have a relapse or anything. !

It's official, for the first time in years, I actually ironed my clothes lol. Even to church, I always wear jeans(I actually didn't own anything else until last night I bought 1 pair of nicer khaki pants) and either a t-shirt or a polo or something.
I don't actually have the job for sure yet though. I went in today, but that was just for an application/interview. I did really good on the tests they gave me though(had nearly 4 times the typing speed required, about 1.5 times the accuracy, and scored 100% on the technical support test). So they decided they would stick me on the tech support "campaign"(that's what they call it), which means I still need to be interviewed by Verizon(the company I'll be doing tech support for). Then the next step is a training class which starts on the 27th of this month, so I won't actually start and start getting paid until then, but directly after that is when I should start working there.
I really hate talking on the phone too, which is why I ended up working at Walmart instead of here in the first place, but it pays $9.00 an hour if I get on the tech support job. That's around $1.50 more than I'm making at Walmart. So, I'm just going to have to suck it up and talk on the phone whether I like it or not lol. I think that means I'm going to have to go part time at WalMart so I can work fulltime at this call center.
I think the trend toward a more casual work dress code is starting to snap back the other direction. I guess it got too casual. But if you think about it, my desire for comfortable clothes aside, once I get my shop set up, it would only make sense to wear jeans and a t-shirt. For one, who would buy a t-shirt from a guy wearing a nice suit? Second, I'll be working in a shop, so whatever I wear is bound to get soaked in everything from sweat, to ink, to grease, etc. Plus, I think people would just like to see me wearing the shirts I've made.
And then of course there is the fact that I like wearing my own shirts and it's what I'm comfortable in lol.
Don't worry, I'll take care of myself :) Don't want any setbacks... wanna be able to start my plans rolling sometime in Spring of '08! Well, they've already started, but I want to be able to start the plans for my shop rolling lol.

I can't help worry just a little about you Oogy, it wasn't that long ago that we were being thankful that you could just swallow broth ! You have so much of a desire to get your company ( yes it will be just that ) up and really going and I feel for anyone it is easy to forget or just not take the time to get enough rest. Especially for a young eager and productive young person such as yourself ! It is very motivating for anyone to see their dreams coming true. I am however very happy for you and I am so proud of your efforts and the real work you are willing to put into this.
I definitely would be leery of a shirt guy wearing a suit ! That is just WRONG ! I do believe in your chosen profession your natural choice of clothing is part of what makes you someone that will know what other T shirt lovers will want an actually wear. You need to be your own walking billboard and after all from what you say it is your outfit of choice.
Oh my ironing -- not that is dedication. I have an iron and ironing board and am forced to use it occasionally but the first words I look for when shopping are wrinkle resistant ! If you only put a few things in the dryer and are right there to take them out it works ! At the most a little touch up is needed as the items get a little older. We do both enjoy comfortable cloths and HR and I both love to wear T shirts -- I like a denim shirt or something open with a T shirt.
Your work will indeed be messy and it is like I tell HR -- big denim shop apron ! It only works if you wear it.
So you are going to be a tech support guy -- you said Verizon, are we talking cell phones and such. I think you will do great with that, you may not like to talk on the phone ( oh what an ordeal that can be ) but you have an excellent command of words and you are clearly skilled in tech matters and I suspect you have had to learn patience. I would think you have learned people skills from you parents -- it sounds like a very good job for you. That much of and hourly increase is a good reason for the change. I can imagine people can be very frustrating and frustrated in those circumstances. I am an uninformed person in tech matters
and even HR gets impatient with me. He tries to hide it but I know for someone that knows all about this tech stuff someone like me can be trying.
I am very pleased to hear that you feel you will need to cut back at Walmart -- 2 full time jobs as well as working on your shirt business sounded like a bit too much to take on. You are a wise person and you will find the right balance.
It is so good to hear of all that you are accomplishing. We are keeping you in our prayers, what you are doing will be rewarding for you and a blessing to to others as well a good work for the LORD. It is quite a privilege to find such a place that you want to and are qualified to work. Your goals are so very admirable Oogy and we look forward to hearing of your success and I am here for support in the trying times and all small businesses have them !
